Here’s a quick tip we’d like to share based on real elevator-site experience.
Even though elevator shafts look enclosed, the car top is not a waterproof environment, and network devices may occasionally suffer from water ingress or corrosion.
Common causes include:
1. Water seepage or rain backflow from the shaft top or machine room
2. Poor drainage of air-conditioner condensate in the machine room
3. Leaks from building pipes or fire sprinkler systems above elevator doors
4. High humidity and condensation caused by temperature differences in the shaft
5. Improper cleaning or maintenance allowing water to enter the shaft

Prevention tips:
✔ Install devices inside protective enclosures or at higher positions with shielding
✔ Use waterproof boxes for both the device and power adapter
✔ Perform regular inspections and address moisture risks early
A little prevention can go a long way in avoiding unnecessary failures and maintenance costs.
